“Intimacy is knowing who you are and letting someone in on the secret.”
DAVID SCHNARCH, Ph.D.
Healthy relating is my passion.
Relationships and human sexuality are complex. They touch our deepest longings and our most painful wounds. It is of utmost importance to me to approach these issues with curiosity and compassion about the big picture and the details - the forest and
the trees.
While sex therapy and relationship therapy are sometimes practiced in tandem, they are distinct. Sex therapy is done with individuals, couples or polycules. While I may offer touch-related homework to clients, it is a form of talk therapy, and there is no touch with me. Relationship therapy is done with couples, polycules, friends and adult family members. The focus of relationship therapy is to improve trust, connection, autonomy, and communication.
I focus on healthy differentiation and draw heavily from the Developmental Model and Intimacy from the Inside Out practices. I have been informed by many other teachers, including Martha Kauppi, David Schnarch, adrienne maree brown, Terry Real, Esther Perel, and Betty Martin.
